The more common fungal infections that normal men suffer from are:
>> Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis)
>> Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor
Uncommon infections include:
>> Oral candidiasis (especially if asthmatic and using a steroid inhaler, or with IV infection)
>> Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) (usually asthmatic)
>> Severe asthma with fungal sensitization (SAFS)
>> Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (often following TB)
>> Histoplasmosis - disseminated
>> Histoplasmosis - acute pulmonary
>> Histoplasmosis - chronic cavitary pulmonary
Men whose immune systems are damaged by HIV/AIDS or other reasons (leukaemia, transplantation, critical illness etc) may suffer from invasive fungal infections.
